It has come to our attention that an inappropriate supplication that was offensive to those of Jewish faith, was made in our downtown mosque, Masjid Toronto. Such language is unacceptable and against the values and practices of the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC), Masjid Toronto and the Muslim Community at large. Masjid Toronto condemns all forms of hate and racism towards any faith group or others and is committed to offering a safe spiritual space for all congregants.
Muslim Association of Canada released this statement on the Masjid Toronto incident on Friday, February 17, 2017.
“No Canadian should feel intimidated when walking into their synagogue, church, temple or mosque. We are thankful to our fellow Canadians who joined with us today against this attack on religious freedom and Canadian values.
The safety and security of our worshippers is paramount. We thank Toronto Police Services for their on-going support and their swift attention.
We also thank our fellow Torontonians and Canadians who have expressed their support.”
We have identified an urgent need to help settle the 500 Syrian newcomers who are coming to Canada within the next 3 weeks by December 31st, 2016.
Sign up for the MAC & COSTI: Befriend A Newcomer Family program – This is a longer term commitment to be assigned as a ‘host’ with a specific Syrian newcomer family and to help them integrate into the society. This is a very rewarding position with a support network established to help the host. If you agree to be a host you will:
a) Undergo a Vulnerable Sector Screening check.
b) Sign up for 2 hour training session. Those who sign up to be a host will get a separate email with training materials.
c) Be generally available at least 2 weekdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm to help the refugees in the first week.
d) Speak Arabic or have someone in your family or circle of friends who speaks Arabic and is willing to help.
Alhamdulillah Masjid Toronto has been able to secure another unit neighboring our Masjid in Adelaide St. for $1.8 million allowing us to expand our prayer space. This additional space will help us accommodate our ever-growing community and the professionals working in Downtown Toronto.
Help us raise $950,000.00 in the final phase of our project to cover the costs of renovations and repayment of Qard Hasan due in the next six months.
